Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Matt started his collegiate basketball career at the University of Colorado where he was the Big 8 Freshman of the Year in 1986. He transferred to the University of Iowa following his sophomore year and was a standout in his home state, averaging 12.7 points per game over his college career. Bullard represented the United States 4 times during his college career, winning 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals for USA Basketball in international competitions around the world.
Bullard started his NBA career with the 1990 Houston Rockets. He played 615 regular season games and 35 playoff games in 12 NBA seasons, including nine for the Rockets, two with the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, and one with the Atlanta Hawks. He was a member of Rockets’ 1993-94 NBA Championship team. Bullard set the Houston Rockets’ franchise record for three-point percentage in a season by shooting .446 from the arc in 1999-2000. He also has a career playoff 3pt% of .458.
Bullard played one year professionally in Greece for PAOK in 1995 where he averaged 18pts and 11rebs.
Bullard currently is the TV color analyst on RootSports Southwest for all Houston Rockets games. He also does a weekly radio segment talking everything Rockets and NBA on Sports Talk 790. He and his wife Paula have a son, AJ and a daughter, Sara.
